Mae Wan-Ho discusses how the Darwinian theory of natural selection has been misappropriated by business leaders and economists. The notion of ‘survival of the fittest,’ originally coined by Herbert Spencer to describe the process of natural evolution, has been mistakenly applied to corporate culture and neo-liberal economics. Darwin’s original theory has, in effect, been used to justify an economic model based on competition, merger and acquisition.
