What is the significance of urbanization in China?
About the video: ‘What is the significance of urbanization in China?’
China’s economic boom has resulted in urbanization on an unprecedented scale. Over 300 million Chinese are expected to migrate to cities within a decade. The pollution of China’s older cities have prompted the authorities to anticipate and prevent environmental problems by the intelligent design of new urban developments. Girardet takes the example of Chongming Island, a new clean green city currently under construction outside Shanghai. Powered by solar and wind energy, Dongtan will house a million inhabitants. This is a pioneering project in sustainable development and is of immense potential significance for the world.
