About the video: ‘How can humanity best cope with increasing oil scarcity? (Part 1)’

Given its finite nature, oil has rapidly become a vital strategic resource. Wars have already been fought over it and we are likely to see more as the years pass. Conflict over dwindling oil supplies can, however, be averted through closer international cooperation. In this two-part series, Professor Heinberg proposes the creation of an Oil Depletion Protocol. The Protocol would ensure a controlled reduction in global oil supply and consumption. This would reduce the likelihood of conflict and help stabilize oil prices as the global economy transitions to cleaner energy inputs. The Protocol would also ameliorate the rapid onset of climate change.
