What will happen in the next few years if we do nothing about climate change?
About the video: ‘What will happen in the next few years if we do nothing about climate change?’
John Schellnhuber talks about the likely short to medium term effects of climate change. He refers to the heat wave that much of Western Europe experienced in 2003. Such events could well become common occurrences by 2040. Hurricanes and typhoons will also become more commonplace and sea levels will inevitably rise. Shrewd coastal zone management will become ever more critical and new sea defences will need to be built. However, Professor Shellnhuber stresses that our adaptation policies are bound to fail if we do not limit global warming to a manageable level (which he has defined as 2˚C above pre-industrial levels).
