About the video: ‘What’s wrong with modern economics?’

Kiuchi believes that various aspects of modern economics are outmoded. The Keynesian economic model is one example, with its emphasis on maximizing demand by any means so as to secure full employment. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is another outdated concept. In origin it was created in 1938 to measure a nation’s military strength, but has since become identified as the key measure of economic progress. New measures are needed to reflect human happiness and quality of life. At the same time rampant consumerism must be curbed.
