Bruce Sterling talks about environmental activism and his own journey as an activist seeking to address the challenge of climate change. He discusses the role the internet plays in supporting activism globally and describes his own web-based initiative. He explains how his work has helped contribute to the emergence of a new cultural movement called ‘haute green’ which demonstrates an acceptance for the role of ethical, sustainable design by fashion magazines and other cultural trend-setting institutions.

Bruce Sterling is a science fiction author and journalist, best known for having helped define the cyberpunk genre in the 1980s. He is the founder of Viridian, an online community promoting high-tech, stylish and ecologically-sound design. He has written a novel about climate change called ‘Heavy Weather’ (1995) and his design manifesto, entitled ‘Shaping Things’, has recently been published by MIT Press. He is a regular contributor to Wired Magazine.
