Johan Galtung is the founder and Director of
Transcend, The Peace and Development Network for Conflict Transformation by Peaceful Means, with more than 300 members from over 80 countries around the world and Rector of TRANSCEND Peace University (TPU). Over four decades he has mediated in conflicts across the world, including in Israel and Palestine, China and Tibet, Peru, Sri Lanka and Burma. He is the author of the United Nations' manual for peace workers and he continues to advise UN agencies on peace issues. He is Professor of Peace Studies at the University of Hawaii. He won the Right Livelihood Award in 1987"...for his systematic and multidisciplinary study of the conditions which can lead to peace"
