Professor Hans-Peter Durr is a nuclear physicist and the former Director of the
Max-Planck Institute for Physics in Munich, Germany. A founding member of the
Global Challenges Network, which promotes the responsible use of technology, he is also a council member of the Nobel Prize-winning
Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, which focuses on measures to promote peace. He won the Right Livelihood Award in 1987 for "...his profound critique of the strategic defence initiative (SDI) and his work to convert high technology to peaceful uses."
