Judge CG Weeramantry is the president of the International Association of Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms and the former Vice-President of the International Court of Justice. As a domestic judge in Sri Lanka, an international judge, a lawyer and legal educator his professional career has touched on a wide variety of topics relating to ethics, peace and cross-cultural understanding. In 2001 he founded the Weeramantry International Centre for Peace Education and Research (
WICPER) and in 2006 he received the UNESCO Peace Education Prize. He won the Right Livelihood Award in 2007 "for his lifetime of groundbreaking work to strengthen and expand the rule of international law". He is a councillor of the World Future Council.
