Bill Joy is a computer scientist and venture capitalist. Joy co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982 and served as chief scientist at the company until 2003. While at Sun he wrote the essay 'Why the future doesn't need us' (2000) for Wired magazine, where he expresses deep concerns over the development of modern technologies. In 2005 he became a partner in venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, where he has made investments in green energy.
